Excessive Sweating

Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) is a condition characterized by abnormally increased perspiration that can occur in various parts of the body, including the palms, feet, underarms, and face. This condition affects approximately 3% of the population, leading to significant psychological and social challenges for those affected.

Treatment options including oral medications such as oxybutynin and use of iontophoresis devices.

One effective treatment for hyperhidrosis is the use of botulinum toxin, commonly referred to as Botox. Botox can block the signals from the nerves that stimulate sweat glands, thereby reducing sweating in the treated areas.

The procedure typically involves a series of small injections directly into the skin of the affected area. The treatment is minimally invasive and can be performed in an outpatient setting. Results generally begin to manifest within a few days, with maximum effects observed within two weeks. The duration of relief can vary, but many patients experience significant reduction in sweating for approximately six months, after which repeat treatments may be necessary. This treatment option is particularly effective for treatment of excessive sweating of armpits.
